To host several WordPress sites on one AlmaLinux VPS without panel license fees, install CyberPanel with OpenLiteSpeed, create each site with open_basedir protection, and schedule backups to off-server storage. CyberPanel and OpenLiteSpeed are free; cPanel and Plesk are paid alternatives (see Install cPanel and WHMCS).

Why AlmaLinux and CyberPanel?

AlmaLinux is a free, RHEL-compatible successor to CentOS that most hosting panels support (see AlmaLinux vs. Rocky Linux). CyberPanel supports it as an install target.
  • No OS license fees: AlmaLinux is free.
  • No panel license fees: CyberPanel with OpenLiteSpeed is free. LiteSpeed Enterprise needs a paid license from LiteSpeed.
  • Built-in caching: the LiteSpeed Cache (LSCache) WordPress plugin works with OpenLiteSpeed’s server-level page cache.
Hosting your clients’ sites as part of your agency work? FlashRDP’s Acceptable Use Policy restricts reselling or sub-letting servers without written agreement. If you’re not sure whether your setup is covered, ask the Presale Desk in a ticket before you deploy.

Size the VPS

RAM is usually the first limit, then storage speed. Each busy WordPress site needs PHP workers and database memory, and traffic spikes on several sites at once add up. As a starting point for 10-20 small client sites, choose SILVER (8 GB RAM) or above. Watch memory use with free -h and upgrade from the Settings tab in the Billing Portal if it stays high.

Install CyberPanel

Prerequisites

  • A fresh FlashRDP Linux VPS running AlmaLinux 9. Check CyberPanel’s documentation for other supported versions.
  • SSH access as root.
  • A hostname for the panel (for example panel.youragency.com) with an A record pointing to your server’s IP.

Run the installer

Log in via SSH and run the official CyberPanel installer:
This downloads and runs CyberPanel’s script as root. To review it first, download https://cyberpanel.net/install.sh and read it before running. At the prompts:
  1. Choose 1 to install CyberPanel.
  2. Choose 1 for CyberPanel with OpenLiteSpeed (free).
  3. Set a strong admin password.
  4. Choose whether to add Memcached, Redis and the watchdog.
Installation usually takes 10 to 30 minutes. Then open https://YOUR_SERVER_IP:8090 to log in.

Isolate client sites

If one site is compromised through a vulnerable plugin, isolation stops the attacker from reading the other sites’ files. CyberPanel runs each website under its own Linux user.
  1. Log in to CyberPanel.
  2. Go to Websites > Create Website.
  3. Select the package and enter the domain.
  4. Tick open_basedir Protection so PHP for that site can only read its own files.
Check in CyberPanel that open_basedir is on for every new site. Keep WordPress core, themes and plugins updated on all sites.

Back up client sites

FlashRDP is an unmanaged host, so application backups are your responsibility. In CyberPanel:
  1. Add a remote destination (for example S3-compatible storage) under the Backup menu.
  2. Create a backup schedule for your sites to that destination.
  3. Set the frequency to daily.
Keep copies off the server so a failed or unreachable VPS doesn’t take your clients’ data with it. Server-level backups are also available from the server’s Backups tab in the Billing Portal. See Back Up and Restore Your Server.
WordPress sends password-reset and contact-form email. Outgoing port 25 is blocked by default, so send through an SMTP relay on port 587 or request port 25.
