Save your public SSH keys in the Billing Portal once, then pick them when you deploy or reinstall a Linux VPS. The server is set up with those keys for root, so you can sign in without a password.
You can save SSH keys once your first server is set up.

Add a key

1

Create a key pair (if you don't have one)

On your computer, run:
This creates a private key (keep it secret) and a public key ending in .pub, for example ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub.
2

Open SSH keys

Sign in to the Billing Portal and click SSH keys in the sidebar, under Public cloud.
3

Paste the public key

Under Add a key, enter a Name (for example “Work laptop”) and paste the contents of your .pub file into Public key. Click Save key.

Saved keys and the Add a key form

Never paste a private key. The portal refuses it, and you should treat a private key you pasted anywhere as leaked.
Accepted key types: Ed25519, ECDSA, and RSA with at least 2,048 bits (including the hardware-backed sk- variants). You can save up to 20 keys.

Use your keys

  • New server: on the Deploy page, pick a Linux image, then choose a saved key under SSH access.
  • Reinstall: on the server’s Reinstall tab, select keys under SSH keys. See Reinstall your server.
Then connect with ssh root@your-server-ip. See Connect over SSH.

Remove a key

Click the remove button next to the key and confirm. The key is no longer offered for new installs.
Saved keys only apply when a server is installed. Servers that are already running keep the keys they were installed with. To add or remove a key on a running server, edit /root/.ssh/authorized_keys inside the server.

Connect over SSH

Sign in to your Linux VPS from any device.

Reinstall your server

Install a fresh OS with your keys.
